Pneumococcal Vaccines

BSC is seeking individuals vaccinated with PPSV23 (Pneumovax23) or PCV20 (Prevnar20), within the past 6 months, and who meet the eligibility requirements to donate blood. Eligible donors are compensated for their time and effort.

Pneumococcal vaccines such as PPSV23 or PCV20, also known as Pneumovax 23 or Prevnar20, are administered to prevent pneumococcal disease, which includes illnesses caused by pneumococcal bacteria. Pneumococcal bacteria is a leading cause of pneumonia.

While anyone can contract pneumococcal disease, certain groups are at heightened risk, including children under 2 years of age, people with certain medical conditions, cigarette smokers, and adults aged 65 and older.

Donor requirements for participation:

  • You have received the PPSV23 (Pneumovax 23) or PCV20 (Prevnar20) vaccine within the past 6 months.
  • Be pre-screened to determine eligibility.
  • You must have a photo ID and be able to provide your social security number or proof of citizenship.
  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must weight at least 110 lbs.
  • You must disclose if you have ever been diagnosed with Hepatitis C and/or HIV.

For questions and concerns about requirements or participation, contact us at (833) GO-4-CURE.

This is not a clinical trial and you will not receive the PPSV23 or PCV20 vaccinces if you are eligible to participate.

This information is not meant for clinical diagnosis, but as an educational resource derived from the CDC.

Participating in research allows scientists and clinicians find new treatments, tests and quicker diagnostic methods to improve patient outcomes and, hopefully, prevent the disease in the future.
